The Museum of Bath at Work

The Museum of Bath at Work, to which I am design consultant, is a local history museum located in Bath, UK. I maintain the identity, website and email newsletter account as well as designing various exhibitions for the Museum and help with the marketing.

The “MoBaW” was set up in 1978 by Russell Frears (who worked for the Eames in Venice , California in the mid-1960s) with help from Marianna Clark, of the Clarks shoe family.

The Frears Foundation

Affiliated with the Museum of Bath at Work, the Frears Foundation was set up to ensure the long-term security of the Bowler collection and associated collections at the Museum in Bath, UK.

Each year the foundation awards a Bath Spa University design student the Russell Frears Award for an innovative design concept for the Museum of Bath at Work. Russell Frears who passed away in 2011, was one of the Museum founders and had a wonderful design career; working for both Charles and Ray Eames, Elliot Noyes and Herman Miller. In fact Russell’s affiliation with Ray and Charles Eames is why Herman Miller Europe is based in the UK; the original R&D facility was based in Bath for many years.

The Museum is a testament to Russell’s design ethos and has probably the largest collection of Herman Miller DSS chairs in the UK(!).
